Mountain Meadows Trail rides
Saddle up for an exceptional horseback riding adventure. Ride alongside cowboys that carry on western traditions and heritage. Enjoy riding a gentle, responsive horse from the Nelson Ranch. Head for the high country on a 2, 3, or 4 day all inclusive horseback adventure, and ride across open meadows filled with a dazzling array of wildflowers. Meander through silent, shady pine forests, and crest high ridges for a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountains.
Mountain Meadow Trail Rides is an extension of the Nelson Ranch, owned and operated by Dan & Terri Nelson and their family. Homesteaded in 1898 by Dan's Grandfather, this 2,000 acre ranch has around 200 cows & 50 horses.
Your riding adventure begins at the Nelson Ranch where your guide will match you up with a horse suited to your riding ability. You will be part of a small personalized group (around 6 to 10) and with respect for both horse and rider, we allow some freedom of movement not found in nose to tail rides.
Relax and rejuvenate at the rustic high-country wilderness base camp, with log-style cabins, handcrafted cedar hot tub, clean out houses, delicious meals, canoeing, and more.
SCENIC TRAIL RIDES May – September
Choose from 6 distinctive trail rides: 1 ½ hour, 2 ½ hour, Half Day, Full Day, Canoe & Ride, and Cowboy Cookout Rides. These rides begin at the Nelson Ranch where the rider’s experience level is matched with an appropriate horse. The groups are kept small (6 to 10 riders), allowing the guide to help with riding instruction, and share stories about the area. Ride side by side beside a high country lake, across open meadows, crest high look-out ridges, and enjoy the peaceful solitude of pine covered forests. Large group bookings can be accommodated with advanced notice.
RAFT & RIDES PACKAGES
Mountain Meadow Trail Rides & Kimball River Sports have teamed up to offer "The Best Of the West" Raft & Ride adventure packages.
*Full Day Combo: Explore scenic high country trails in the morning on a 2 ½ hour ride, and cool off in the afternoon on a 2 ½ hour rafting trip down the St. Mary's River.
*Adventure Combo: If you have several days to stay and play - select the raft & ride package that is just right for you! Raft one day and ride the next. 2 rafting options and 3 riding options to choose from.
*Deluxe overnight combo: 2 great days and 1 fabulous night starts with a 3/4 day raft trip with a riverside BBQ. Then saddle up for an evening horseback ride into a remote wilderness base camp. Included in the package is your own private cabin, a cedar hot tub, supper that night, breakfast & lunch, and a full day of riding the last day (this package may also be extended to a 3 or 4 day trip).
Meadow Mountain Trail Rides can customize an outstanding retreat for your group. Discover our world of horses, cowboys, and breathtaking scenery. The private base camp is a wilderness sanctuary, offering a creative environment that inspires renewal and achievement. The large cabin can be used as a conference room and is equipped for seminars and meetings (quiet generator for electrical needs is available). They are flexible in working around your schedule and requirements. Vehicle transport into the base camp is available for individuals unable to ride.
