For classic western adventures and ranch vacations visit the beautiful Skyline Ranch, a working Cattle Ranch hidden within a valley of its own in the historic Porcupine Hills just west of Claresholm.

Centrally located to Southern Alberta's greatest attractions, the Skyline is 90 minutes from Calgary, the Montana and British Columbia borders. They offer Calgary International Airport pick up service for their guests.

Western adventures, tours, packages, fly-fishing, riding and hiking are just some of the activities you can find during your stay. The Skyline Ranch is proud to preserve and educate the western way of life and the ranch is rich with history, breathtaking scenery, wildlife and an abundance of natural fresh water springs originating from the property. The landscape is made up of steep hills, lush forests, open meadows and an abundance of natural fresh water springs. The Ranch’s thousands of acres are home to cattle, horses and a large variety of wildlife.

Skyline Ranching and Outfitting offers trademark horseback riding throughout the ranch, as well as overnight pack trips into the mountains. Experienced guides are ready to take you out to check on cattle, observe the wildlife and enjoy the landscape. There is a great string of horses and you will be set up with one to match your ability. For a slight fee, guests can bring their own horses.

Skyline specializes in riding lessons, half day rides, full day rides and overnight pack trips. Pack trips are a tremendous experience and destination and prices vary upon group size. As a guest, you can feel safe and comfortable for you are in good hands with experienced guides. Over 30 years in the outfitting business shows.

If that’s not enough horse activity for you, take part in pack horse and horse shoeing clinics. There are a number of ways you can expand your horsemanship skills during your stay.

During your stay be sure to take camera for wildlife photography opportunities. Some of the abundance of wildlife on the ranch are the hundreds of species of birds and the beaver damns. Bird watchers and photographers can observe from blinds throughout the property. Deer, moose, elk, black bear, coyotes, cougar and more can be seen throughout the forests and hidden meadows. Also offered are professionally guided tours.

The forests’ wildlife and cattle trails pave the way for great hikes or tours with your mountain bike. There is much to explore and learn from the beautiful natural environment. Guided adventures as well. There are many downhill descents in heavy forest and shadowed trails.

Try your luck at fly fishing in private stocked ponds with rainbow trout. Natural springs feed the ponds with fresh water. You can design mountain day trips as well to the Crowsnest, Old Man, Chain Lakes and more. The Skyline Ranch is also home to the Alberta fly fishing retreat. Ask for details.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Enjoy the fantastic ranch bed & breakfast “antique fashion.” Cozy country rooms, great meals and an array of antiques. After a peaceful sleep, wake up to the smell of the best coffee from their own natural spring water. Nearby the house is the garden, barns, spring fed trout ponds and an abundance of trails to take a walk or a morning ride.

All rooms offer a grand view of the property and have a great little tea room with an overview of the pond. There is a private wing of the house with 3 bedrooms. The main level consists of a log addition, social room, patio and the dining room. Additional rooms in the house are available as well, and guests have 2 showers and an antique bath tub.

Rustic Log Cabin

This secluded cabin is very private. Isolated on its own 125 acres at the southern tip of the ranch, it ensures privacy and the perception that you are at your own ranch. The cabin has a wood fueled fireplace inside and an open fire pit outside, making it a great spot to spend time with friends.

Nearby is another spring fed pond. Sandstone cliffs on the hill side next to the cabin offer fantastic views. The cabin has a fridge, propane stove, wood stove and an outdoor BBQ. It is very rustic and sleeps 2 - 6 people. Live life like a frontiersman. The cabin also backs onto thousands of acres of forestry for hiking, mountain biking and corrals should you arrange to bring your own horse

Stampede Rodeo Special - Infield seats behind the bucking chutes, transportation, and more. The first week of July. There is no better way to enjoy “the greatest outdoor show on earth”. The guides at the ranch have had years of rodeo experience and are proud to promote this great rodeo. They can answer your questions and show you around in style. There are also other rodeo packages for local bull ridings and more.

Branding Special - Bar M7 - 3 nights accommodation, cattle roundup and branding. First weekend in June. Round up cattle from the valley, sort in the pens and then all the dust is kicked up branding. After the work is done celebrate with campfires and music at the legendary Bar M7 Saloon. The following day ride again to check cattle and more. Best suited for a few couples or up to 6 friends. All ranch activities are included.

Cattle Drive - Trail cattle into the forestry. First week of July.

Alberta Fly Fishing College - Practice with instruction, stocked ponds, river field trips, lectures, and fly tying. June.

Skyline Ranching and Outfitting offers tour transportation to great nearby attractions. Take in the Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, an excellent native history site, or the Remington Carriage Museum, a world class museum in Cardston focusing on the era of 19th century horse-drawn transportation. At the beautiful Glacier/Waterton Lakes National Park there are numerous activities and attractions while the Frank Slide is a historic museum located in Alberta’s Crownest Pass.
